Haskoll China Chairman Mr.Peter Goldsmith give speech on “Smart Shopping for Smart Shoppers”

Haskoll China Chairman Mr. Peter Goldsmith was invited to a discussion seminar on the “Smart Cities Debate” by the Infrastructure & Property Forum, which was organized by British Chamber and CBBC. Peter gave a speech on “Smart Shopping for Smart Shoppers”. 

Peter’s speech mainly concentrates on the relationship between the consumer behavior and the city, and how to make the development of city synchronize with the changing consumer culture and behavior from a planner and designer’s perspective.  

So how can we design smart cities for smart shoppers? Peter mentioned two points of view: 1. The need for effective systems of movement and connection. 2. Encourage social engagement and diverse experience. 

Using Haskoll’s 6 principle types of organization and circulation, the design can meet the needs of effective systems of movement and connection, and by encouraging social participation and diverse experience, we can finally reach an organic smart city which satisfies smart consumers. 

Matthew Smith, the Director of China from Buro Happold and Jenny Lawton, the Regional Director of Ultra Electronics also shared their opinion about smart cities from the perspectives of engineering and electronics. After the speech, the speakers and participants from Engineering management, Internet and Finance industry engaged in a question and answer session to discuss the present hot topic of “Smart Cities”.
