CURI International Characteristic Town Development Forum

Peter Goldsmith, the Chairman of Haskoll, was invited to CURI International Characteristic Town Development Forum as a guest speaker.

The aim of the forum is to discuss the current trend in characteristic town development and strengths and threats of it. More than 200 guests and speakers across the world attended the forum and shared their own opinion and prospects about the characteristic town development. The forum also organised case study display and research conference on the same day.

As a representative of the UK session, Peter Goldsmith introduced a concept for new town development in Chna: ‘Making Connections’. He delivered a speech about three case studies Haskoll designed in the past years including the Oracle in Reading, Huancui Valley and Hailongtun Tourist Village projects to elaborate PESEC approach. PESEC means 5 types of connection that are all required in urban development and planning in China, namely Physical, Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural. He emphasised all the town development should consider all those five parts from inside to outside of the settlement itself.
