2014-12-01
The winner of The British Business Award 2014 were
revealed at a glittering gala dinner in Beijing on Thursday 20th November 2014. Haskoll was named the winner of "Best
Service" award.  This is the first time
an architecture and design company has won this award.  Haskoll collected the prestigious accolade in
front of some 400 British and Chinese guests from business, government and the
media. The winners of other categories included the InterContinental Hotels
Group, Huawei Technologies UK and Standard Chartered bank.

Openingthe awards ceremony, HM Ambassador Sir Sebastian Wood
said "the Awards have gone from strength to strength since they began in 2008,
a reflection of the increasingly strong ties between China and Britain. The
event is now a prestigious feature of the British business calendar in China.
The Awards are above all a celebration of the UK-China relationship: a showcase
for the best of British business in China and Chinese business in the UK.
Nearly forty outstanding companies and individuals, are competing this year,
selected from over 200 candidates.  In
2014, the UK-China partnership is characterized by growth, reform and
innovation. We are still only at the take-off phase of a relationship which
could make a big contribution to China's transformation to a knowledge economy
and bring an enormous new source of vitality to the UK in return."

Chair of the Judging Panels, Russell Brown, introduced the
judging process. He was impressed not
only by the number of nominees, which was 40 percent higher than the
last Awards in 2012 and a new record, but also by the quality of entrants and
the balanced mix between SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and multinationals
from a wide range of industries and backgrounds. "There were three parts to the judging
process: first, the judging panels reviewed all the entrants to create a
shortlist of five for each award; second, they interviewed the shortlisted
finalists; and third, the finalists were put to a public vote. Points were
awarded for each of the three rounds, according to each candidate's rank of the
first to fifth in their category, with a weighting of 20/40/40 between the
application, the interview and the online vote.  Each award had its own lead judge and judging
panel drawn from the relevant field and the judging process was closely
overseen throughout by the independent voting observer."

Judges were impressed by Haskoll's success within the past
five years.Haskoll’s services have
proved effective in delivering beautiful buildings and interiors for some of
China’s top real estate developers, names that are becoming well-known
globally, such as Wanda,Jindian,Shimao.

market penetration and diverse approach into niche areas are all key factors
contributing to their success in China.

Peter Goldsmith, Chairman, commented: "It is a tremendous tribute for us all at
Haskoll China to have won this award for Best Service 2014 and to know that we
are championing UK business in China, particularly as an SME in the creative
arts sector focused on the enormous issues associated with China's uniquely
challenging programme of urbanization." Talking
about the secret to Haskoll's success, Peter Goldsmith emphasized the ability
to "react", "adapt" and "deliver at speed". "Alongside this, we offer something unique that China needs and which is
perfectly suited to the various cultural and contextual conditions. Our influence far exceeds our size and it is
fantastic to receive this award amongst fellow leaders of UK businesses in
China. It is also great to be recognised
by the British government and organisations that do so much to enable UK
businesses to grow and to compete in China."
